DESCRIPTION:Remarkable features of gas electron multipliers (GEM) make them
  attractive \nfor numerous applications in high-energy physics\, nuclear 
 physics\,\nastrophysics\, and the medical-imaging field. This talk 
 presents the \nresults of research and development of GEM-based radiation 
 detectors at \nBINP\, Novosibirsk. These studies include the GEM operation
  in pure noble \ngases at high pressures and cryogenic temperatures\, as
